Vegas Thanksgiving with the Kids

I know what you’re probably thinking — Kids and Vegas do not mix, but when your whole family decides we are doing a Vegas Thanksgiving you figure out how to plan accordingly. Our whole family which included two 3 year olds, a 5 year old, a 12 year old, and an 18 year old decided to meet in Vegas for Thanksgiving and although I was hesitant as a mother with kids knowing my brother and sisters with their kids would be there as well, I was ready to start planning Thanksgiving in Vegas.

The first thing my brother and sister did was book conjoining rooms at the Flamingo Hotel. When we first booked, since we gamble a lot, we booked through Total Rewards and were able to get multiple nights comped.  A strong suggestion to anyone who travels to Vegas more than once is to sign up for Total Rewards and even if you never touch the casino floor you can rack up points at the restaurants and shops. Chances are after your first trip, you will have some offer for free rooms sent to you within the year. You can also combine rewards with your significant other.

Upon arrival we made sure to tip our hotel check-in guy because in my experience doing so always provides better rooms and in our situation conjoining rooms are not guaranteed so the tip did help and also got us an amazing view of the promenade and high roller. Next we all took the kids across the street to see the free volcano show at the Mirage. This was a great free show — yes I am sure we have all seen the water show at the Bellagio but this was one we all had never seen so we decided on the volcano show at the Mirage, and it did not disappoint. Also there were tons of kids and all of the cartoon characters were out including Mickey, Minnie Mouse and Piccachu. Keep in mind these were not up to par compared to Disneyland and they require a tip for a picture.

The next day we all took a trip to Red Rock Casino and went bowling which was one of the nicest bowling alleys I have seen in a while. While at Red Rock we went over to Lucille’s Smokehouse for our Thanksgiving dinner which to my surprise was a genuine Thanksgiving feast with turkey, ham, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, bread rolls, and even pumpkin pie. My whole family was very impressed for a party of 14 the cost was 249$ for the entire feast,  drinks not included.

For the remainder of the trip we went to places like the free mermaid show at the Silverton Resort off of the strip, the Dolphin Experience at the Mirage in Siegfried and Roy’s secret garden, and the Container Park in downtown Fremont. All in all it was one of my favorite Vegas trips and there were enough adults so we could all take turns watching kids at night to get a little adult time. My kids and niece let me know that they had the best Vegas Thanksgiving ever and they can’t wait to go back.
